Information released at the 19th China International Die & Mould Technology and Equipment Exhibition and the 2019 Shanghai International Auto Die & Mould and Forming Technology Equipment Exhibition, which opened in Shanghai on June 11, indicates that China's die consumption reached 255.5 billion yuan in 2018, accounting for approximately one-third of the world's die consumption, and its die output also accounts for over one-third of the world's total die output.

According to statistics from the China Mould Industry Association, in 2018, China exported US$60.85 billion worth of dies, a 10.8% increase year-on-year, accounting for one-quarter of the global total die exports. Exports reached approximately 200 countries and regions worldwide, with the top five export markets being the United States, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, and Mexico. Die imports totaled US$2.14 billion, a 4.3% year-on-year increase, accounting for one-eighth of the global total die imports. The top five import markets were Japan, South Korea, Germany, Taiwan, and the United States.

Dies are known as the "mother of industry." According to research by the China Mould Industry Association, in 2018, China's die consumption of 255.5 billion yuan supported 28 trillion yuan worth of industrial finished products nationwide. It is a crucial component of "Made in China," playing the role of a "behind-the-scenes hero" in everything from major national projects to improvements in people's daily lives. Taking the automotive industry as an example, the dependence on dies in automobile manufacturing exceeds 90%, and over 95% of die companies nationwide are involved in automotive dies.

Statistics show that in recent years, Chinese die companies have accelerated their "going global" strategy, completing over 20 mergers and acquisitions with a total transaction value of nearly US$7 billion. The main focus of these mergers and acquisitions has been on the intelligent, electric, and lightweight aspects of dies.
